Academic Crisis

So, both Rem and I are having academic crisises (is that even a word?). I'm not so sure I want to teach English at the secondary education level...I'm being pushed more and more towards teaching at the college and university level. OH NO! That means even more school. I would have to get my Master's. I'm also becoming more interested in also getting an Editing minor in addition to my music minor. Rem is in the same boat--not sure if he wants to teach History at the secondary level. He's also becoming interested in Law Enforcement, which was his major before History, Graphic Design...and something else but I can't remember at the moment. I've been told by many of my teachers that I would excel in graduate school here, and we were always focused on Rem getting his Master's.

Why does growing up have to be so difficult?

In other aspects of our life, things are going great! School is still obviously taking over many things. I FINALLY got a calling as the Relief Society Pianist, and Rem is substituting alot in Primary, but has no official calling as of yet. We are doing good, learning to work together more and more each day. Oh, and we aren't sick anymore. I have a little bit of a remaining cough, but coughs always tend to stick around with me.

Sick...

It's amazing how much we take good health for granted until we get sick.

Amazingly, the sick-prone husband of mine, is not the one sick. It's me! There's a respiratory viral infection floating its way around campus and I got it. Now I'm on Claritin and they gave me this LOVELY cough medicine with coedine in it. I slept like a log last night, it was beautiful.

Admonition

So I got scolded because I haven't updated in a while. Truth be told, our Internet was not working for a really long time or was really sketchy about when it would decide to work or not. We finally took pictures of our apartment! I don't know how to flip pictures here...and I don't have time to go do it in another program right now, so have fun tilting your head for some of them!

Things Are Starting to Get Crazy!

So lots of things going on. I actually got my financial aid! Woo hoo! I got a 4,500 dollar Pell Grant and then a 5,500 Subsidized Stafford Loan to go along with my half-tuition scholarship. So, things worked out and life is good. Now we just need to get approved for health insurance in the next month...

Um...I got a haircut. It was really sad how bad of shape my hair was in. The stylist basically cut all my split ends, and I ended up cutting off about 3 inches, so my hair is back at my shoulders again. I really like my hair though, so it's okay. I found a salon I actually trust out here in Utah, which is a very good thing since we will be here awhile.

I was able to buy all my books for around $275, which is cheap considering how many there were. English professors and their need for many novels...

A year ago yesterday, Rem proposed to me. It's crazy to think that we have already been married for two months when I think about it that way. But it's very good. :)

Rem and I are looking at getting a new digital camera since mine is not really compatitable with anything anymore, and that way I can post pictures for everyone. We also were able to save my hard drive from my broken laptop by changing it into an external hard drive. I didn't lose all my music! Whew!

So, someday I will get better at this blog thing for now, but this will have to do for now.

Welcome!

Rem and I thought that it would be a good idea to keep a blog to keep in touch with all of our family spread across the US, and to share the adventures of our little family of two. We apologize in advance if we bore you to unconciousness...we know we can be quite dull at times.

Well, today is our two-month anniversary! YAY! We have had a few little stumbling blocks, but for about 99% of the time, our marriage is running smoothly. We have settled into our little apartment and although it is small, it is home. Things will begin to fell pretty claustrophobic once school starts though. We have never been together during the school year until now, so we will both get to see each other's bad habits in regards to school firsthand. That will be fun...

Rem has been working at Heritage Halls at BYU for this summer, but he has a cool job lined up for the school year at the Testing Center on UVU's campus. He is excited about not cleaning up after EFY kids, and having a job where he won't come up a sweaty mess everyday (So am I!). This week I had a couple of interviews, and today I was offered a job as the assistant to the Director of American Heritage. It's going to be really intense, and may even be more work than what I did when I worked as an assistant at the Little Caesars headquarters, but I am way excited for this oppurtunity, and am also glad not to be a custodian for the third school year in a row! It will be a great experience and help me gain insight into my future in the educational realm.

Rem's financial aid went through and we were very pleasantly surprised by how generous it all was! Who knew you could get a $4000 dollar Pell Grant? We didn't! This means that Rem will be able to go to school full-time and not be punished (as much) for not being a resident yet. We tried to get him Utah residency, but I had to be a resident for two years in order for the fact he married a Utah resident to count. Oh well. Now we know, and he will be a resident in their eyes by next July! My financial aid is taking alot longer, and although it is quite frustrating, we know that it will all work out in the end.

So that is the basic gist of what has been going on in our lives for the past couple months. We want to thank everyone in our family for all of their love and support! We miss you all dearly!
